Our Story

Just Transition Northwest Indiana (JTNWI) was established in April 2020, emerging from years of grassroots organizing. The organization was founded to ensure the clean closure of the NIPSCO Michigan City plant and to address the coal ash waste that threatens air quality and Lake Michigan, our vital drinking water source. JTNWI is dedicated to fostering environmental justice in the Northwest Indiana region, advocating for legislative action on pressing environmental issues at local, state, and federal levels.
