Our Story
Just Communities Arizona (JCA) is an abolitionist organization founded in 2015 by Dr. Grace Gámez. With a mission to end the punitive systems of criminalization and mass incarceration, JCA empowers local communities to define their own safety and wellbeing. Spinning off from the American Friends Service Committee in 2022, JCA continues its legacy of advocating for transformative criminal justice reform in Arizona.
Impact
Since 2012, JCA has successfully passed sentencing reform legislation every legislative session, conducted original research that has informed policy changes, and led a coalition of over 30 partners advocating for criminal justice reform. Their efforts have been recognized nationally, making significant strides in challenging for-profit incarceration.
