Our Story

In the late 1980s, unaccompanied youth from Central America fled violence and despair, arriving in Los Angeles with hopes for a better life. Many found themselves at La Placita Church, where Fr. Richard Estrada recognized their plight. In 1990, he founded Jovenes Inc. to provide shelter and food for these vulnerable youth. Over 30 years later, Jovenes has evolved into a comprehensive organization that offers a continuum of care, helping homeless youth transition from the streets to their own apartments, fulfilling Fr. Estrada’s vision of a welcoming and supportive environment.

Our Impact

Jovenes empowers youth aged 18-24 to break the cycle of homelessness by addressing their needs for housing, healthcare, education, employment, and trauma recovery.
