Our Story

The Journalistic Learning Initiative (JLI) was founded in 2010 by Ed Madison, inspired by a panel discussion with renowned journalism teacher Esther Wojcicki. This nonprofit organization empowers students, particularly in under-resourced communities, through project-based storytelling and journalistic practices.

Impact

Since becoming a nonprofit in 2015, JLI has served over 4,500 students in Oregon and California. Independent studies show that 78% of students challenged themselves more in writing, while 89% found journalistic skills valuable.
