Our Story

The roots of Joseph & Mary’s Home were planted in 1851 when the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine arrived in Cleveland from France. Over the years, they adapted their ministries to meet the changing needs of the community. In the mid-1990s, the Sisters established 'The Dream Team' to address the needs of those experiencing homelessness, particularly those discharged from hospitals. This led to the incorporation of Joseph’s Home in 1997, which opened in 2000 to provide transitional health care for adults experiencing homelessness. In 2016, the organization transitioned to a medical respite model to better serve the evolving needs of the community.

Impact

Joseph & Mary’s Home is Northeast Ohio’s sole provider of medical respite care for medically fragile individuals experiencing homelessness. The program has successfully stabilized the health of hundreds of men, helping them secure permanent housing and improve their overall well-being.
