Our Story

The Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association was established in 1916 by twenty-four leading national organizations to enhance health and safety in the mining industry. Named after Dr. Joseph A. Holmes, a pioneer in mining safety, the Association has evolved over the decades, merging with the Holmes Mine Rescue Association in 1999 to strengthen its mission. Local chapters have been organized since the 1920s, fostering a community dedicated to safety.
