Our Story

Established in 1941 by dance pioneers Doris W. Jones and Claire H. Haywood, the Jones-Haywood Dance School was created to provide minority children with the opportunity to study classical ballet during a time of limited access for African-American students. This institution has nurtured countless students who have gone on to achieve remarkable careers in dance, while also inspiring the next generation through community outreach programs.
