Our Story

The Family Crisis Center of Johnson County was founded in 1983, emerging from the early battered women's movement. A dedicated group of volunteers established a 24-hour crisis helpline in 1985, leading to the growth of essential services. The center has expanded to accommodate increasing demand, relocating to a supportive facility in 2013 that houses up to 30 residents.

Our Impact

Since its inception, the Family Crisis Center has provided a safe haven for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2021 alone, over 4,000 hours of trauma-focused counseling were provided, assisting more than 300 victims of sexual assault.
