Our Story
John C. Lester Jr. was a beacon of strength and optimism. At just 21, he faced the devastating news of kidney failure due to a rare complication from strep throat. Over the next 26 years, John endured three kidney transplants and a battle with skin cancer that began in 2011. His journey included four major "free flap" surgeries, where he bravely faced the removal of cancer from his head, reconstructing his skull with tissue from his own body. Despite the challenges, including brain infections and extensive surgeries, John remained resilient. Tragically, in August 2016, he lost his battle with cancer. However, in his final months, John dedicated himself to a noble cause: improving the lives of children undergoing similar reconstructive surgeries. He laid the groundwork for the John Lester Foundation, which continues to honor his legacy by transforming the lives of these children.
