Our Story
At the turn of the 20th century, a visionary group of Jewish citizens in Louisville, Kentucky, aspired to create a healthcare home that welcomed all individuals, regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay. In 1903, this dream materialized with the founding of Jewish Hospital, which quickly gained recognition for its inclusivity and excellence in care. Over the years, the hospital flourished through a partnership with the University of Louisville School of Medicine, making significant contributions to medical research and healthcare advancements. Today, the Jewish Heritage Fund for Excellence (JHF) continues this legacy, established in 2012 with proceeds from the hospital's sale. JHF has invested over $93 million in more than 110 nonprofit organizations, enhancing community health, advancing world-class medical research, and nurturing a vibrant Jewish community across Kentucky.
