Our Story
The Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor has a rich history that began with Jewish settlement in the area in the 1850s. The first synagogue was established in 1913, marking the beginning of organized Jewish life in the community. Following WWII, the community grew, leading to the formation of the United Jewish Appeal chapter in 1961 to coordinate philanthropy for global Jewish needs. In 1992, the organization joined the Council of Jewish Federations, evolving into the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor in 2017.
