Our Story

Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven has a rich history dating back to 1881, when the Hebrew Benevolent Society was established to assist newly arriving Russian immigrants. Over the years, the organization evolved, merging with other community groups to form United Jewish Charities in 1919. With the hiring of a professional social worker, the foundation for a dedicated social service agency was laid. In 1940, the name was changed to Jewish Family Service of New Haven, and in 2015, it became Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven to reflect its expanded outreach.

Our Impact

Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven supports individuals and families by providing essential social services to all community members, regardless of age, ability, race, or faith.
