Our Story
Decades ago, Jews in the Upper Midwest faced significant exclusion from American life, with many employers and communities refusing to accept them. In 1946, essayist Carey McWilliams famously stated that 'Minneapolis is the capital of anti-Semitism in the United States.' Today, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC) continues the vital mission of protecting and advocating for the Jewish community. Founded in 1939 by Samuel Scheiner, JCRC has played a pivotal role in transforming attitudes toward Jews and other minorities. From advocating for fair housing and employment practices in the late 1940s to supporting Israel after its establishment in 1948, JCRC has been at the forefront of social justice and community advocacy.
