About Jefferson Performing Arts Society

Founded in 1978 by Dennis G. Assaf and Hannah Cunningham, the Jefferson Performing Arts Society (JPAS) has been a beacon of artistic and cultural enrichment in the Gulf South. Recognizing the lack of professional arts offerings in Jefferson Parish, JPAS was established to fill this void and create a vibrant cultural climate. Despite facing challenges such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Isaac in 2012, JPAS has proudly maintained its commitment to the community, never missing a single season since its inception.

Impact on the Community

JPAS has evolved into a significant economic engine, contributing nearly $5 million annually to the local economy. By providing a platform for the performing arts, JPAS enriches the cultural landscape and enhances the quality of life for residents of Jefferson Parish.
