Our Story

In November 1988, a coalition of dedicated professionals came together to address the urgent need for a more effective response to child abuse in Jefferson Parish. This collaboration led to the formation of the Child Victims Task Force, which aimed to enhance the investigation and treatment of child abuse cases. Inspired by a successful program in Huntsville, Alabama, the Jefferson Children’s Advocacy Center was established in 1991, becoming Louisiana’s first fully operational Children’s Advocacy Center and the seventh in the nation.

Since opening its doors, the center has provided a safe haven for over 8,160 children, allowing them to share their stories and begin their healing journeys. In September 2023, the center proudly unveiled its new headquarters in Terrytown, a 5,000 sq. ft. facility designed to offer comprehensive services for child abuse victims in a nurturing environment.

Our Impact

To date, nearly 7,800 children and families have been served, with over 35,000 children and thousands of professionals educated on the critical issues surrounding child abuse.
