Our Story

The New Mexico Japanese American Citizens League (NMJACL) is a proud chapter of the national JACL, the oldest and largest Asian American and Pacific Islander civil rights organization in the United States. With a rich history rooted in advocating for the rights of Japanese Americans, particularly during the injustices of World War II internment, NMJACL is dedicated to safeguarding the civil and human rights of the AAPI community and all those affected by injustice and bigotry.

Our Impact

Through initiatives aimed at documenting and educating about the internment of Japanese Americans, NMJACL actively raises awareness of historical injustices. Their efforts include developing historical markers and participating in community events that promote civil rights and social justice.
