Our Story

The Jane Place Neighborhood Sustainability Initiative (JPNSI) began in 1999 with the establishment of Nowe Miasto, a vibrant community hub in New Orleans' Mid-City neighborhood. Originally a collective living and performance space, Nowe Miasto became a beacon for local activists, fostering community-based projects and hosting various events. After Hurricane Katrina devastated the area in 2005, the need for a community-wide movement to promote safe, affordable, and sustainable neighborhoods became clear. In December 2008, JPNSI was officially incorporated to address these pressing issues.

Our Impact

For over 15 years, JPNSI has been dedicated to creating sustainable, democratic, and economically just neighborhoods in New Orleans. The organization has worked tirelessly to expand affordable housing options for low and moderate-income residents while advocating for housing justice throughout the city.
