Our Story

Mainsprings was founded by Chris Gates after volunteering at a local center for street boys in Mwanza, Tanzania. Initially named The Janada L. Batchelor Foundation for Children, the organization began with the mission of providing a safe home for vulnerable girls. Over the years, it has expanded to include transformative education and restorative agriculture, aiming to end generational poverty in rural Tanzania.

Impact

In 2023, Mainsprings provided a home and full-time care for 58 vulnerable girls, supported 32 girls in pursuing higher education, and harvested over 33,000 kgs of fruits and vegetables to sustain its programs.
