Our Story
Founded in 2012 by mother-daughter duo Veronica Loomis and Mikayla Barnett, It's A She Thing, Inc. began as a simple "girls' night in" and has evolved into a powerful nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of women and girls. With a mission to turn life's trials into triumphs, the organization has reached hundreds through monthly She Talks, community outreach, and the annual Empowerment Camp for Girls. The SheMatters Resource Fund and COVID-19 Relief Fund have provided essential support to families facing financial challenges, while the Willie Mae Loomis Scholarship celebrates the academic achievements of local graduates. Recently, the organization launched a monthly grocery plan, delivering thousands of dollars in groceries to families across New York's five boroughs since June 2021. Currently, the construction of the Willie Mae Loomis Transitional Home is underway, providing critical housing for women and their children in need.
