Our Story
The Italian American Police Association of Western New York was founded by Angelo Fatta, who envisioned a club for Italian American police officers. The first meeting took place in the old Show-up room at Police Headquarters, where eight dedicated officers gathered to establish a fraternal organization. Over the years, this group has evolved into a robust association committed to supporting not only its members but also the community at large.
In 1974, the tragic loss of Officer David J. Scime, the first member killed in the line of duty, led to the establishment of a scholarship in his honor. This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving graduate of McKinley High School, his alma mater. Additionally, a second scholarship is awarded at Lafayette High School in memory of Robert Insalaco, another fallen officer. These initiatives reflect the association's dedication to uplifting the next generation and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
