Our Story
Founded by Ron Rose, Island Scholars emerged from a deep commitment to give back to the community of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where he received his early education. In 1999, Ron initiated a program aimed at supporting high-achieving children from low-income families, recognizing that many qualified students lacked the financial means to attend top high schools. This modest effort quickly grew as Ron realized that even those who completed high school faced significant barriers to pursuing a university education.
In 2012, Ron sponsored Giselle Baptiste, a determined student who was accepted into the University of the West Indies (UWI). With her parents struggling financially, Giselle's dream of higher education seemed unattainable. However, with Ron's encouragement, she pursued her studies and graduated in 2015, now inspiring future generations as a high school Math teacher. This success story fueled Ron's passion to establish a scholarship fund, leading to the official formation of Island Scholars in 2014.
