Our Story
The Irvington Historical Society was founded in 1964 to document and collect the rich history of Irvington, Indianapolis’ first planned suburb. Initially housed in the Benton House, the Society later moved to the Brown Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library as its collection grew. In 1999, with generous grants and bequests, the Society restored the Bona Thompson Center, which opened as its permanent home in 2002. This volunteer-driven organization operates a free museum and research center, dedicated to preserving local heritage.
