Our Story

The International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros (ISPMB) is the oldest organization dedicated to the welfare of wild horses and burros in the United States. Founded in 1960 by Velma Bronn Johnston, known as Wild Horse Annie, ISPMB has been at the forefront of advocacy, education, and legislative efforts to protect these majestic animals and their habitats.

Our Impact

ISPMB has played a crucial role in influencing legislation that safeguards wild horses and burros. With over 290,000 successful adoptions through the Adopt-A-Horse program, the organization has rescued countless herds from potential slaughter and established protective ranges for their survival.
