Our Story
The International Catholic Deaf Association (ICDA) was founded in Canada in 1918 by Mother Columbiere, who dedicated her efforts to the deaf community in Toronto. This initiative led to the formation of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Deaf Society and the Ontario Catholic Deaf Association in 1946. The first International Catholic Deaf Congress in 1949 marked a significant milestone, establishing the foundation for ICDA. Today, ICDA represents over 138 chapters across the US, Canada, and beyond, focusing on the spiritual and social needs of deaf Catholics.
