Our Story

In 1971, an oil spill in the San Francisco Bay ignited a movement to protect oiled wildlife, leading to the establishment of International Bird Rescue. With its first rescue center in Berkeley, California, this organization has dedicated itself to the rescue and rehabilitation of aquatic birds worldwide. Over the years, International Bird Rescue has responded to more than 220 oil spills across 12 countries, providing critical care to thousands of avian patients each year.
