Founded in 1991, the Interfaith Outreach Association (IOA) evolved from the Kum-Ba-Yah program initiated in 1966 to support inner-city children and families in Lynchburg, Virginia. The organization fosters interfaith cooperation and provides essential support to neighbors in need through various programs.

IOA serves populations in Lynchburg and surrounding counties, focusing on those living in poverty. With a 93% success rate in preventing homelessness through its Homeless Prevention Program, IOA addresses the urgent needs of families relying on SNAP benefits and Medicaid.
