Our Story

Founded in September 1967, the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO) was established by progressive faith leaders and activists to channel funds from U.S. churches to communities striving for self-determination and justice. Under the visionary leadership of Rev. Lucius Walker, Jr., IFCO became a pivotal force in supporting predominantly Black community organizations, emerging as the largest foundation in the U.S. controlled by people of color by the mid-1970s.

Impact

With over $4 million allocated to more than 150 community organizations, IFCO has been a catalyst for social justice movements, empowering the poor, hungry, and exploited.
