Our Story

Middleton Island, located about 60 miles off the coast in the north-central Gulf of Alaska, is home to a unique marine field station. Since 1978, this station has been a cornerstone for seabird research and conservation, providing invaluable data for marine ecosystem management. Originally an Air Force Base during the Cold War, the island has transformed into a vital hub for understanding seabird populations and their habitats.

Impact

The research conducted on Middleton Island has greatly enhanced the understanding of marine ecosystems and seabird populations. This station plays a crucial role in monitoring seabird breeding biology, offering essential insights into environmental changes and conservation needs.
