Our Story

The Institute for Nonviolence Chicago, founded in 2015 by peace activist Teny Gross, is dedicated to breaking the cycle of gun violence in Chicago. By engaging with communities affected by violence, the organization provides essential outreach, job programs, and behavioral health services to restore hope and healing.

Our Impact

In 2023, the organization engaged 922 participants in vital services and responded to 391 shootings, arriving within 60 minutes 97% of the time. This rapid response has led to significant reductions in violence, with three of four community areas experiencing a decrease in shootings compared to the city-wide average.
