Our Story

Established in 2001, the Institute for Mental Health Research is the first statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to mental health research in the U.S. Founded in response to the Bush Commission's recommendations, IMHR focuses on funding early-stage mental health research, educating the public, and fostering collaboration among scientists and healthcare leaders.

IMHR has achieved a remarkable $20 return for every dollar invested, resulting in over $20 million directed toward mental health research in Arizona. The organization has supported more than 50 projects across 10 institutions, significantly enhancing the landscape of mental health care.
