Our Story

The Institute for Heritage Education (IHE) was established in Montana in 2014 by a dedicated group of Project Archaeology supporters. Initially created to provide a stable home for Project Archaeology during challenging times, IHE has evolved to meet the growing needs of cultural heritage education. In 2019, recognizing the importance of supporting a wide range of heritage programs, IHE was revived and received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. In 2022, IHE became the designated national nonprofit partner for Project Archaeology, solidifying its commitment to preserving our shared history through education.

Impact

From 2020 to 2024, IHE has secured $176,848 in project funding, trained 353 educators, and engaged 15,980 students in cultural heritage education.
