Our Story

The Indigenous Peoples Council for Marine Mammals (IPCoMM) is a dedicated Alaska Native organization formed by 15 members across Alaska. Since 1997, IPCoMM has partnered with federal agencies, scientists, and tribes to co-manage marine resources, ensuring the protection of marine mammal species and the preservation of Alaska Native ways of life.

IPCoMM plays a vital role in safeguarding marine species such as bowhead and beluga whales, Pacific walrus, and ice seals, which are central to indigenous traditions.
