About Indiana Prison Writers Workshop
Founded in September 2018 by Debra Des Vignes, the Indiana Prison Writers Workshop began with a single creative writing class for ten men at Plainfield Correctional Facility. Since then, it has expanded to include a dedicated team of nine facilitators, leading writing workshops in five Indiana state prisons, three prisons in Alabama, and the Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois.
Impact of Writing
The Indiana Prison Writers Workshop has proven that writing can be a powerful tool for personal transformation. By developing critical thinking and communication skills, participants are better prepared for reintegration into society.
