About Illinois YMCA Youth and Government

Founded in 1949, Illinois YMCA Youth and Government is inspired by the original program from New York. This initiative educates high school students about government processes by immersing them in a mock government setting, fostering civic engagement and leadership skills.

Impact of the Program

Each year, approximately 1,000 students engage in the General Assembly, supported by over 250 dedicated adult volunteers. This program has successfully reached thousands of students across Illinois.
