Our Story
ICW Vocational Services, Inc. has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for adults with disabilities for over 50 years. Established in September 1971, the journey began with a single trainee at the Indiana County Workshop. By May 1972, the Workshop had expanded to accommodate fifteen trainees, marking the start of a transformative mission.
In 1976, the Department of Welfare's guidelines led to the Workshop's licensing as a vocational-rehabilitation center, paving the way for job placement services. The name evolved to Indiana County Workshop, Incorporated in 1977, reflecting its growing impact. By 1982, the Workshop was operating at full capacity, with a waiting list of eager trainees.
As the demand for services grew, the Workshop relocated to a larger facility in 1992, now at 155 North 10th Street, and expanded its offerings to include community-integrated employment opportunities. In 1995, the organization was renamed ICW Vocational Services, Inc., symbolizing its commitment to lifelong learning and inclusion.
Today, ICW Vocational Services, Inc. operates two facilities in Indiana, PA, serving over 85 individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health diagnoses, and physical impairments from Armstrong, Indiana, and Westmoreland Counties. The organization provides a comprehensive continuum of services, including Community Participation Supports, Facility-Based Programming, and Employment Services, all designed to maximize individual potential and promote dignity.
