About ICAN Associates

The Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN) was established in 1977 by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to coordinate vital services aimed at preventing, identifying, and treating child abuse and neglect. Over the years, ICAN has grown to include 32 agencies, making it the largest county-based multi-agency child abuse council in the nation. With 15 working task forces and committees, ICAN has published annual reports on the state of child abuse in Los Angeles County and has organized numerous conferences to educate professionals in the field.

Impact of ICAN Associates

ICAN has pioneered the first Child Death Review Team in the nation, a model now replicated across all states and in 13 countries. Through public awareness campaigns, ICAN has successfully reduced infant deaths related to unsafe sleep practices and developed a computerized database system to facilitate information sharing among agencies, enhancing the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
