About I AM A FATHER 5K

Founded by David Manuel, I AM A FATHER 5K is dedicated to addressing the critical need for male parental guidance in inner-city communities. With nearly a decade of experience in Atlanta Public Schools, David recognized the profound impact that engaged fathers can have on youth development. In 2007, he authored the influential book, ‘I Am A Father, Celebrating African-American Fathers,’ which sheds light on the often-overlooked narratives of black fatherhood.

Our Impact

Since its inception, the I AM A FATHER 5K has grown exponentially, attracting over 800 participants in its sixth year alone. The event has expanded to two cities, Atlanta and Birmingham, Alabama, and has become a beacon of hope and unity for families and communities.
