Our Story
The journey of Huntsville Botanical Garden began in January 1980, when a dedicated group formed the Huntsville-Madison County Botanical Garden Society. Initially meeting in kitchens and churches, their unwavering commitment led to the City Council granting them 35 acres of land with a challenge to raise $200,000. In just six months, this goal was met, marking the beginning of a cherished community asset. Volunteers, affectionately known as the "Bushwhackers," worked tirelessly to shape the garden, culminating in the planting of a Southern Magnolia in October 1985, symbolizing the community's dedication to this green oasis.
