Our Story

The Huntington Symphony Orchestra, a legacy of the first orchestra in West Virginia from the late 1930s, was revitalized in 1970 by Dr. Paul W. Whear. This initiative brought together talented musicians from Marshall University and the local community, culminating in the inaugural concert in 1971. Over the years, the orchestra has flourished, focusing on classical performances, pops concerts, and vital community outreach programs.

Impact

For over 30 years, the HSOA has enriched the lives of residents in Cabell and Wayne counties of West Virginia and Lawrence County of Ohio through the Education For Future Orchestra Related Tradition (EFFORT) program, bringing live music into schools.
