Hunger at Home
EIN: 47-5462753 · San Jose, CA
Our Story
Founded in 2008 by Ewell Sterner in San Diego and reactivated in 2015 in San Jose, Hunger at Home was inspired by Ewell's son, Casidy. At just 8 years old, Casidy was moved by the sight of hunger and homelessness while volunteering at a food bank. Ewell, a hospitality executive, recognized the opportunity to connect wasted food with those in need, leading to the establishment of Hunger at Home. The organization partners with local businesses to recover surplus food and distribute it to those facing food insecurity.
Our Impact
Since its inception, Hunger at Home has recovered and repurposed enough food to provide 12.6 million meals to individuals and families in need, significantly reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity in Silicon Valley.
