Our Story

Founded in 2012 by Dr. Maria Hess and her Latina co-founders, Claudia Cendejas and Cecilia Perez, Humanidad Therapy & Education Services was born from a vision to address the urgent need for culturally proficient therapists. With over three decades of experience in the Psychology Department at Sonoma State University, Dr. Hess has dedicated her life to teaching and community service. In 2013, HTES became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, providing essential counseling services in Santa Rosa City Schools. Today, the organization is recognized by the Office of Health Equity, CDPH, for its impactful training and counseling programs.

Our Impact

Humanidad’s mission is to empower the Latinx community by enhancing access to mental health resources. By transcending barriers and reducing stigma, the organization offers culturally proficient therapist training, inclusive community education, and bilingual therapy services.
