Our Story

The Humane Society of Washington County was founded in November 1921 by Ms. Daisy Derby Whipple. Starting in a modest one-room building with just twelve animals, it has evolved into a leading animal welfare organization. The current facility, established in 1938 and expanded in 2001 and 2015, serves as a sanctuary for countless animals in need.

Our Impact

Each year, the Humane Society of Washington County provides shelter, humane education, spay/neuter programs, and adoption services, positively impacting thousands of animals from newborns to seniors.
