Our Story

Founded in 1971 by a courageous group of individuals, the Humane Society of Manatee County has been a beacon of hope for animals in need. Initially operating as a foster-based organization, it became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1973 and opened its first facility in 1978. Over the years, it has transformed from a no-kill shelter into a leader in creating a no-kill community, significantly impacting local animal welfare through spay/neuter programs and partnerships.

Impact

Each year, the Humane Society of Manatee County places over 600 animals in loving homes and performs more than 6,000 spay/neuter surgeries. This vital work helps reduce the number of animals entering shelters and ensures that over 13,000 pounds of pet food are distributed to financially challenged pet owners.
