Our Story

The Humane Society for Hamilton County is one of the few open-admission, truly no-kill shelters in the country. Founded to provide a safe haven for animals in need, this organization believes every animal deserves a chance to live, love, and be loved, regardless of age, breed, or medical needs. Inspired by her own dog, Maggie, Executive Director Rebecca Stevens left her corporate career to dedicate her life to animal welfare, leading to the shelter's growth and success in saving thousands of animals.

Impact

In 2023, the Humane Society for Hamilton County received 4,000 animals and achieved a remarkable placement rate of 98%. They successfully reunited 406 lost pets with their families and saved 439 animals from other Indiana shelters. Innovative programs like Pets Healing Vets connect veterans with emotional support pets, showcasing their commitment to both animal welfare and community support.
