Empowering Youth Through Basketball

The Howard Youth Basketball Alliance (HYBA) has been a cornerstone of youth sports in Howard County, Maryland, since its inception in 1992. With a commitment to inclusivity, HYBA has grown from serving 192 young athletes in its inaugural season to over 3,000 kids annually, encompassing more than 400 teams across Spring and Fall basketball programs. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to ensuring that no child is turned away for any reason, providing equal access to basketball for both boys and girls, whether they are recreational or travel players.

HYBA is renowned for its innovative Friday Night basketball program, which has set the standard for youth sports across the country. The founder and president of HYBA believes in teaching life lessons through the sport of basketball, keeping children engaged and active during the off-season. With a rich history of participation spanning generations, many former players now bring their children to experience the same values and community spirit that HYBA instills.

Supported by over 500 dedicated volunteers, including coaches and scorekeepers, HYBA operates without any government funding, relying solely on the passion and commitment of its community. This organization advocates for youth sports at both the county and state levels, ensuring that every child has access to high-quality athletic programs.

Impact of HYBA

HYBA serves over 3,000 kids and 400 teams each year, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in sports.
