About Houston Levee Community Center

The Houston Levee Community Center (HLCC) was established to meet the needs of the Cordova community, inspired by the vision of Pastor Lynn Holmes from Calvary Church of the Nazarene. The journey began with a simple Easter Extravaganza, which brought families together and ignited a passion for community service. As the church recognized the growing needs of the neighborhood, they initiated the Make A Difference program (MAD), providing support to local organizations like LEAH House and Boys and Girls of Greater Memphis.

In 2012, after extensive prayer and community assessment, the vision for a dedicated community center became clear. The 2014 Extravaganza revealed a strong desire for a space where children and families could engage in academic enrichment, sports, and cultural experiences. This led to the creation of the Houston Levee Community Center, which officially opened its doors on October 31, 2016, thanks to generous donations and community support.

Since its inception, HLCC has made a significant impact on families and youth in Cordova and surrounding areas. The center offers a variety of outreach programs, including full-day youth summer camps, a Father-Daughter Dance, Fall Fest, and a Youth Basketball League. Additionally, HLCC provides adult classes in Christian Counseling, Anger Management, Addiction Recovery, and Diabetes Awareness, fostering personal growth and community well-being.
