Our Story

Founded in Los Angeles in 2018, the Housing Equality & Advocacy Resource Team (HEART L.A.) is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to keeping people and their companion animals housed. By combining housing rights with animal welfare, HEART L.A. addresses the unique challenges faced by pet owners in housing insecurity. Through technical assistance, education, and policy advocacy, HEART L.A. empowers renters and pet owners while educating animal welfare groups on their legal rights.
