House of Umoja
EIN: 23-1886698 · Philadelphia, PA
Our Story
The House of Umoja began in the 1970s in Philadelphia, founded by community residents David and Falaka Fattah. This grassroots initiative emerged from their home, aiming to mediate gang conflicts and provide counsel for both gang and non-gang youth. By fostering a family-centered environment, the House of Umoja offers a sense of belonging and identity that many young individuals seek through gang affiliation.
Impact
Over 3,000 boys have been saved from the violent streets, with more than five hundred young minority males transformed into self-assured, competent, and productive citizens.
