Our Story

The House of Refuge story began after the decommissioning of the Williams Air Force Base in southeast Mesa in 1993. In 1996, 88 homes were transformed into transitional housing for families experiencing homelessness. Almost 30 years later, House of Refuge continues to provide essential transitional housing and wrap-around support programs, helping families regain their dignity and heal from trauma.

Impact

With 78,828 bed nights provided, House of Refuge has created a safe and comforting environment for families. An impressive 88% of participating families graduated to stable housing, while 90% of adult heads of households were employed at graduation.
