Our Story
The journey of Hospice of Redmond began in 1979 when a local nurse sought compassionate care for her husband during his final days. Inspired by the first hospice in London, community leaders, including surgeon Dr. Marinus Koning, recognized the need for an alternative to hospital deaths in Central Oregon. This led to the establishment of Hospice of Redmond, which started as an all-volunteer agency serving just six patients a month. By 1981, it became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to providing quality end-of-life care to individuals and families across Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties.
